Costumes and Crafts
Many of our fellow Browncoats are rather crafty indeed. For starters, here are some links to some webpages with information on costumes and on making costumes or costume pieces.
Our very own Melissa runs the Costumes Page at Browncoats.com. There is a lot of information already there, including costumes that other flans have made, some pointers on costuming for Firefly, and pointers to directions for making Jayne’s cunning orange hat, like these two:
- Superfly’s cunning instructions
- Emisanboo’s instructions from a post at Craftster.org
This set of links and thoughts on Wash’s costumes came to me from Samurai James. These are his words:
here is a costuming resource… for Aloha shirts. Silk is expensive, but I’d go for the 100% cotton. I noticed that Wash sometimes wears a vest (leather?) over the Aloha shirt and that under the aloha shirt is a collared polo shirt, and under that is a t-shirt, maybe black. Sometimes he’s wearing a jumpsuit with the aloha and vest over it.

One may also find aloha shirts in various local clothing stores, but it’s finding a pattern that fits the color schemes of the ones Wash wears that I think is the important part of the “Wash Costume”.
And why Wash? For me it’s because I used to live in Hawaii and I don’t have too many occasions to wear my aloha shirt… Aloha shirts can be casual and formal attire in Hawaii… and I like Wash’s easy going style, his “never let them see you sweat” as he calmly pilots the ship thru thick and thin.

So, as you can see, there isn’t a lot listed here yet, so if you come across any that aren’t already listed, or you’ve created something fun and Firefly-y, please let me know, and I’ll include it here. I’ll organize it all better once I have more to organize. I will be adding content as I find it, make it, figure it out, or have it sent to me. ![]()
Enjoy!
